Rush hour misery after M54, Brierley Hill and Wolverhampton Ring Road smashes

Multiple morning crashes have caused traffic chaos across the Black Country.

A three-car smash on the M54 took place at around 7.30am between Junction 3 for the A41 and Junction 2 for the A449 Stafford Road.

Eastbound traffic was diverted along the hard shoulder as a result with both lanes closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Two fire engines and at least two ambulances were at the scene, which has now been cleared.

The collision took place within two miles of roadworks on the M54, where one lane of the eastbound carriageway remains closed for resurfacing work.

Traffic was backed up as far as the A5 as a result of the crash and delays remain in place.

Meanwhile a bus driver had to be freed from his vehicle following a crash with a lorry along Wolverhampton's ring road.

Emergency services were called to the accident at 7.44am this morning, which involved a Royal Mail lorry and a National Express West Midlands bus.

No-one was injured in the crash, including all bus passengers and both drivers, but firefighters had to free the bus driver.

The crash caused major delays in the city, blocking the clockwise exit onto Wednesfield Road from Stafford Road.

Queues of up to 50 minutes were taking place on the Stafford Road.

Three fire crews attended the scene.

In Brierley Hill, Hurst Lane has been closed after what police described as a serious collision.

The road is shut in both directions between the A4036 Pedmore Road and Narrowboat Way.
