The old Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary could be on the brink of being sold after estate agents received a number of bids to buy the site.

CP Bigwood put the 2.5 acre site on the market last month with no asking price.

The closing date for offers has now passed and the firm confirmed they have received bids to buy the derelict property from several interested parties.

CP Bigwood spokeswoman Natalie Price said: "The closing date for potential buyers to express an interest in the site has now gone.

"We have received a number of offers and we are still in negotiations over the future of the site."

The eye infirmary is owned by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and has been the subject of a string of failed development bids since it closed in 2007.

Proposals for a new supermarket and shopping precinct both fell by the wayside over issues around planning permission.

One of those who has expressed an interest in the site is Wolverhampton businessman Kultar Dale, who recently developed the old Charles Clark plot on nearby Merridale Road.
