The Yorkshire Terriers were whisked away from a Birmingham address by two men claiming to be investigating neglect allegations.

The smartly dressed men turned up at the Blandford Road, Quinton property on Saturday and stole a nine-month-old puppy and her parents.

One of the thieves grabbed the puppy from the kitchen while his accomplice stole her mother and father, who are expecting a litter in less than a month's time, from the garden.

The pair then made a swift exit.

The RSPCA said that none of their officials were sent to the address.

Investigating officer DC Stewart McLaughlin, from West Midlands Police, said: "They purported to be from the RSPCA's neglect team and suggested the dogs 'looked in a bad wad' before removing them from the house.

"It's clear they've targeted the house in order to steal the dogs.

"It's not clear if they made their escape in a car so I'd ask for any witnesses to contact me - and if anyone has seen the dogs or offered them for sale I'd like to hear from them."

The men, both white, are believed to be in their late 30s or 40s and struck just after 2.30pm on Saturday, October 31.

One is described as 5ft 6ins tall, with a muscular build and blonde-brown shaved hair, while the other was taller, around 6ft, with short black hair.

All three dogs are black and tan in colour. One has a black and grey tail while the bitch has an all-black tail.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC McLaughlin in the investigation team at South Birmingham Police on 101.
