The smash happened close to Hilltop Farm on Stafford Road, Lawnhead.

The two cars collided and then ended up hitting hedges on the side of the road.

Both suffered serious damage to their front ends in the crash.

Both cars ended up in the hedge

It happened at around 3.10pm on Sunday and involved a Vauxhall Astra and a Nissan Navara.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor, said: "Judging by the skid marks on the road, the cars collided on a corner and then spun into the hedge at the side of the road some distance apart.

"Both vehicles had suffered considerable front offside damage."

Mr MacGregor said ambulance crews had a narrow escape after another car came round the corner while they were tending to the injured trio and just missed them.

He added: "As crews were working at the scene, they had a near miss when another car came round the corner and narrowly avoided colliding with one of the ambulance vehicles."

The 35-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Astra was suffering from pain in both wrists.

A man driving the Nissan Navara, who was in his 40s, managed to get out of the 4x4 but collapsed in the road due to a broken ankle.

A woman in the same car received chest injuries from her seatbelt.

All three were taken to Stafford's County Hospital.
