WATCH: Boy racers tear through Black Country streets in defiance of High Court ban

Boy racers have been flouting a ban on 'car cruising' in the Black Country after complaints of gathering on roads around Great Bridge.

Sandwell Council joined Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall councils to work with West Midlands Police to secure a three-year injunction in December.

It stops people from participating in a 'car cruise' anywhere within the Black Country or from promoting, organising or publicising any car cruising event.

But residents have reported new meetings being held on the A41 Black Country New Road and Charles Street near Asda supermarket and an industrial estate.

It comes after reports of similar meetings recently in Wednesbury and in Tipton.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said that people living near the Black Country New Road have complained about being disturbed by cars racing.

"These racers' cars are so loud. They disturb everyone late at night racing around," he said.

"I know that the police and council have this injunction now but it is still going on.

"Cars overtake other vehicles and we can see them speeding past homes. We just don't want there to be an accident."

Another resident added: "It hasn't stopped it's got worse - if they know the police don't do anything it is going to get back to how it was before."

It comes as video footage emerged, allegedly showing cars racing around streets in the area.

Councillor Joanne Hadley says residents have highlighted the issue with Sandwell Council and action will be taken.

"If it takes us councillors to go out onto the streets and noting down number plates of cars we will do," she said.

"We have a zero tolerance response to car cruising in the area and we are working on it with police.

"It is a hard nut to crack but we are determined to keep up the work on this."

Sgt Dave Rogers, of the Great Bridge neighbourhood team, said previously that gatherings had continuing in the town on Sundays.

"An operation is in place for duty officers to patrol the Great Bridge area at the predominant times.

"This operation is ongoing and indefinite," he said.

Officers say they have also been gathering evidence in a bid to halt the meetings of car cruisers in Wednesbury.

People complained to neighbourhood officers about speeding vehicles around Hallens Drive.
