Pedestrian seriously injured in A41 collision

A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a car near Smethwick.

The woman entered cardiac arrest and suffered a serious head injury as a result of the accident, which took place on the A41, Soho Road, in Handsworth at around 5.40am today.

She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The A41 is closed in both directions between Villa Road and Hamstead Road while police deal with the incident.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said: "Crews at the scene immobilised her and applied a pelvic splint and she was given fluids.

"Advanced life support techniques were also performed on her."
