Rogue removal men: Trolls pour scorn on victims

While many have been touched by the tale of a young couple left out-of-pocket by rogue removal men, others have lacked sympathy.

The story on removal man Lee Green driving off with all of a family's possessions has touched the hearts of many people who have donated generously toward replacing their lost items.

But along with the sympathy, some people have written scathing comments about hiring removal companies from Facebook, and some even questioning why an engagement ring was not worn.

So far 159 people have donated to a Go Fund Me page set up by a friend of Becky Szenk and Mark Higgins, raising more than £4,500 to help the family replace their possessions.

But a large number say the family never should have known better than to use a cheap man-and-van found on Facebook.

Talking about the response to their story yesterday, Miss Szenk said they had been overwhelmed by the support from people, and are slowly getting back on their feet.

Asked her response to the online comments, Miss Szenk said the removal firm had been recommended by a friend of a friend, and his Facebook page had a number of good reviews.

Quotes from other companies were thousands of pounds, and as it was a fairly last minute move they did not have that sort of money to hand.

As her partner does not drive and she did not feel comfortable driving a hired van herself, they chose to use a removal company, she said.

Miss Szenk also said there seemed to be some confusion about her 'engagement ring', with many questioning online why she was not wearing it, instead keeping it in her jewellery box.

Not one for wearing rings, when the couple got engaged Mr Higgins instead bought Miss Szenk a Pandora bracelet with a ring charm on it, which said she only wears on special occasions.
