Sir Cliff Richard is a hit as he poses with fans in Birmingham

Sir Cliff Richard has been enjoying the best of Birmingham over the past few days having been spotted several times around the city.

From glancing at social media it seems the 74-year-old was more than happy to pose for photographs with adoring fans ahead of his gig at the Symphony Hall last night.

These pictures posted on Twitter show the music legend posing with fans across the city.

On Monday the singer was seen in the Bullring by Lisa Kenny, picking up a coffee from an outlet in Selfridges. Lisa, who was over from Ireland visiting family, said: "We were in Starbucks and my cousin Sue has seen him walk in.

"I didn't believe her but I turned around and saw it was him. He was a gentlemen and very friendly. He was a man of few words but he asked how we were and had no problem at all posing for the picture."

Friends Chloe Newton and Tara Baaj, both17, had been visiting the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston, when they stumbled upon the star.

They grabbed their chance to pose for a picture with the music legend who appeared to have been on a trip to the popular attraction.

Chloe, who lives in Sutton Coldfield, said she was stunned to see him. "He was really nice. I think he was stunned as he didn't get to say much but he was fine with us," she said.

"It is not every day that you would see him here. He posed up for pictures with a couple of other people there too."

Regularly seen in the stands at Wimbledon, Sir Cliff was also snapped on Monday morning at Edgbaston Priory Tennis Club.

He has been a regular visitor over the years and has attended the Aegon Tennis Championships, where the top women play ahead of Wimbledon each summer.

He dropped in for a game of tennis with coach Katie Shaw and also had a tour around. Club spokeswoman Julie O'Hare said: "It was lovely to have Sir Cliff at the club. He has been to us before when he is in the area so it was nice for him to come back to play."

He also took time out to visit Pushkar bar and restaurant in Broad Street where staff were delighted to welcome him and posed for photographs.

Both Facebook and Twitter were buzzing as excitement built ahead of his performance last night.

Debi Moir, said: "Saw you in concert in Birmingham – The Everly Brothers were your lead act. Probably 1963? I became a member of your fan club that night and have followed you ever since."

Jennifer Austin went one step further and asked Sir Cliff – who has sold more than 250 million records worldwide in a career spanning seven decades – for a shout out during the gig.

She said: "Any chance of a mention at Birmingham tonight for my fabulous mother-in-law Sue Stonehouse, wearing a pink Marilyn Monroe scarf on the front row? Cliff, she loves you."
