Pub manager Tom Broome said Owen was polite and funny and more than happy to pose with fans.

Mr Broome said: "He was going to the horse races in Wolverhampton when he stopped here for a meal with a few friends beforehand.

"I've got to say he was really sound. He was really polite and funny.

"He was more than happy to have a chat and have pictures with the families who were in the pub at the time.

"I managed to have a chat with him about the football too, although I support West Ham.

"He was a really nice bloke. We were happy to welcome him to the pub."

Following his stop off, the pub posted a picture on their Facebook page of the star the following day posing with staff behind the bar - which was 'liked' by more than 600 people.

The caption read: "What a fantastic day yesterday, not only did we raise over £600 for Macmillan at the coffee morning, we had England's finest no.10 at our establishment! We were all a bit star struck!"
