Air ambulance doctor Ben Clarke was treating himself to a sausage roll when this snap was taken at the Pride of Britain Awards and the footballer ducked into the frame.

The awards commended Dr Clarke, 40, along with army doctor Major David Cooper, 34, paramedic Tom Waters, 27 - the air ambulance team who helped save the lives of victims of the Smiler crash at Alton Towers in June.

The medics risked their own lives to save the victims of the accident and were presented with their award by those they saved.

The trio ignored safety rules to scale the ride and help the 16 casualties, including 18-year-old Leah Washington, who lost her left leg.
