The purpose-built centre will be open to thousands of youngsters in the city and include facilities such as five-a-side football, music, dancing and basketball.

And bosses are now looking to recruit staff as well as volunteers.

Staff roles currently being advertised include, a facilities manager, administration assistant, sports and arts co-ordinators, youth workers, enterprise and employability worker, inclusion worker and a communications manager.

The Way also want to recruit 100 volunteers, including youth workers, gym instructors, a mini bus driver and mentors.

Alice Davey, general manager of The Way said: "We are looking for a dedicated team of skilled people that can deliver the high quality service the young people of our City deserve. The Youth Zone will be a state of the art, iconic facility that will raise the ambitions and aspirations of those that use it and we want to see this reflected in our work force and volunteers."

The centre, in School Street, will open its doors in January to offer sporting and cultural activities for young people aged eight to 19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities.

It will also include a multi-use four court sports hall, climbing wall, third generation floodlit pitch, fitness and boxing gyms, enterprise room, media suite, café, cooking area and a general recreation area.

The scheme has also been supported by a number of high profile people and businesses in the city.

The City of Wolverhampton College, Marston's and Carvers have all pledged their support by becoming Founder Patrons.

Meanwhile, Wolves legend Steve Bull has been unveiled as a project ambassador.

The project is being spearheaded by Wolves chairman Steve Morgan. It has also been backed by One Direction's Liam Payne, who made a surprise appearance at the centre's 'topping out' ceremony in April.

Underpinning the revenue funding from The Way's founder patrons is £5.5m of capital investment from The Morgan Foundation, The Queen's Trust, St James's Place Foundation, Sport England, Garfield Weston, Football Foundation and Keltruck.

Wolverhampton council is also investing more than £3m in The Way towards both the development and running costs.
