The Kings Arms in Dudley Road was a meeting place for both players and supporters when the team played at several locations in the Blakenhall area before moving to Molineux in 1889.

Planning permission was granted for a change of use last year and now work has started to convert the site into three shops and nine offices.

Councillor John Rowley, who represents Blakenhall and is a member of the Campaign For Real Ale, said: "It is part of the fabric of the Dudley Road and I am sure will be missed by many locals.

"I know the landlord Anil Dhanda has worked very hard over the last 12 months to turn the fortunes of the pub, but has not been able to do so.

"Fortunately Dudley Road is a vibrant trading route and I am sure that the site will become commercially successful in its new form."

In the 1880s, the pub's landlord was Jeremiah Mason, whose son Charles made 108 appearances for Wolves and three for England. The pub was also used to host Wolves' team meetings.
