Wolverhampton driver who died in Staffordshire lorry crash named

A Wolverhampton man who died after his car collided with an articulated lorry in Staffordshire has been named as 41-year-old Peter Twyford.

Mr Twyford died after his Vauxhall Zafira crashed into the lorry on the A449 near Coven on Saturday.

The lorry was parked in a layby on the road's southbound carriageway when the collision took place.

Emergency services were called at around 4.45am, but were unable to save the Cavendish Gardens resident.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "Crews arrived to a car that had been in a serious collision with a HGV that was parked in a lay-by.

"The man driving the car had suffered multiple serious injuries, and sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"No other person was injured in the crash."

The A449 was closed for more than eight hours while specialist collision investigation officers examined the scene, with assistance provided by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Mr Twyford's family have requested that they be left alone to grieve.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 124 of September 12.
