Tributes to former Wolverhampton man, 92, who died after bus brake incident

The family of a former Wolverhampton great-grandfather, who died after a bus performed an emergency stop,  have paid tribute to man who will be "greatly missed by all".

Joseph James Stockton, 92, was injured in Telford, on September 3. As the bus approached its next stop the driver performed an emergency stop manoeuvre.

Mr Stockton, who was also known as Jim, had stood up in order to get off and as a result of the emergency braking he fell to the floor.

He suffered serious head and neck injuries and later died in hospital.

The family of Mr Stockton, who was originally from Wolverhampton, have issued a tribute following his death, which said: "We are devastated to announce the sudden tragic death of Joseph James Stockton (Jim), aged 92, who lived in Telford but was formerly from Wolverhampton.

"Jim was the father of Sue and Mike, grandfather of Robin, Richard and Philip, and great grandfather of Bella. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, their partners and many friends.

"If anyone has any information regarding this terrible incident we implore them to contact the police as soon as possible."

Police would still like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident, to call 101, quoting incident number 358s of Thursday, September 3.

Mr Stockton, of Sutton Hill, died two days after the crash at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, on September 5.

An inquest into his death will open tomorrow in Shrewsbury.
