The company, the UK's biggest independent delivery firm, is on the hunt for 100 new operators for its night shift to take up permanent jobs at its site in Kingswood Lakeside, Cannock, ahead of its peak time over the festive season.

Last year was the busiest in APC's 20-year history as it handled millions of parcels at its purpose-built sortation centre.

On its busiest day, December 15, the site sorted 166,092 parcels in 24 hours.

The company has seen continued growth, adding another 100 to its 500 strong earlier this year in a move that provided a lifeline to workers from collapsed rival City Link, who were given priority as APC filled its vacancies.

Now the company – twice winner of the Express & Star's Business of the Year Award – is looking for another 100.

Emma Scott, human resources director at APC Overnight, said: "We're on the lookout for highly motivated individuals looking to build a long-term career in one of the region's fastest growing businesses.

"We're continuing to see impressive year on year growth and while we're aiming to fulfil vacancies ahead of the festive peak the positions we've created are permanent."

The company has been at its Kingwood Lakeside base for just over two years, after moving from its previous home in Essington. The 138,000 sq ft sortation centre, developed at a cost of £16.5 million, enables APC to link up with its network of 115 independently-owned depots across the UK.

To cope with last year's growing pre-Christmas demand, the company invested another £6 million at the site including the installation of installed two new sky sorters, and it's biggest trunking investment to date, adding 45 new moving double-deck, curtain-sided trailers to its vehicle fleet.

The company has also seen changes at the top this year, with courier industry heavyweight Jonathan Smith, the former boss of Yodel, hired as the new chief executive officer.

APC Overnight is now organising recruitment days to help it select its 100 new workers. The first one will involve an open day at its Kingwood Lakeside base on Thursday, October 1, between 10am and 3pm. Further dates will follow.
