Gnash of the day as Halesowen Town goalie loses teeth

Nearly £400 has been raised by Halesowen Town fans after their goalie's teeth were knocked out during a game.

The cash will be used to fund dental work for Daniel Platt as part of the 'Put a Smile on Platty' campaign.

The amount raised online currently stands at £390 but is growing all the time as generous supporters add to the pot.

Platty was involved in a sickening clash of heads while rushing to make a clearance during a pre-season friendly with Tividale on August 8. He was taken to hospital after losing his teeth, while opposition striker Joel Ayettey was knocked unconscious following the collision.

Both players recovered but the Yeltz goalkeeper is facing a hefty dental bill to reconstruct his teeth.

The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) has agreed to foot half of the £6,000 bill.

But sports injury insurance does not cover dental work and the club cannot afford to pay the other half - meaning Daniel has been left needing to find £3,000.

Yeltz fans have rallied around their shot stopper with a fundraising page set up at gofundme.com.

More than 30 fans have contributed to the online fund so far.

Paul Guest, who runs the club's website, said: "They were both outside the area and went to head the ball. It wasn't intentional, just a clash of heads.

"Fortunately the teeth were found on the pitch but it's going to take a lot of dental work to reconstruct that.

"Unfortunately it is not covered by sports injury insurance so the fans are trying to raise some money. He has got to try and find half himself. The football club is run by volunteers so can't just give away £3,000."

It was not a happy start to life at Halesowen for the 23-year-old, who only signed for the club in the summer having previously played for AFC Telford and Redditch United.

The club are hopeful fans will spread the message through social media to get the money rolling in.

Platt has returned to first-team action since his injury and inevitably has found himself on the receiving end of some dressing room banter.

Mr Guest said: "He's ok. He has lost his good looks. It has all been taken in good humour. He did play recently but we just want to make him smile again."
