The Harp Inn in Walsall Street, Horseley Fields, has been ordered to close its doors for the next month by officers at Wolverhampton council.

The closure was confirmed on Friday and comes after West Midlands Police applied for the venue's licence to be reviewed after a spate of violent incidents.

Wolverhampton council's licensing manager Colin Parr said: "We can confirm that the police have submitted a review application regarding the Harp Inn, Walsall Street, Eastfield.

"Pending the full review hearing next month, the council has suspended the licence of this premises."

In June 2014 doorman Ian Ramsey was knifed through the heart at the pub just days after council bosses had granted it a late licence.

Following a trial Craig Birch, 31, of Inkerman Street, was jailed for 14 years.
