Brides and rides: Couple tie knot at Alton Towers

A quirky bride tied the knot at Alton Towers and went on all the rides in her wedding dress to mark the occasion.

Armed with VIP passes for all of the rides, Lizzie Beth Scarrott and husband Christian, who met over Facebook, got married in front of 20 of their closest friends and family on Saturday.

Lizzie, a self-employed car saleswoman from Bishop's Cleeve in Gloucestershire, went on all of the major rides in her wedding dress after the ceremony.

She said: "We go to Alton Towers about three times a year and we've made some great memories there with the kids, so it made perfect sense to get married there.

"We go at every opportunity and it's a place we've grown to love. We know it so well.

"I'd been waiting for this day for so long – I even bought my wedding dress 10 years ago before I even met Christian.

"It was a big princess dress with three large petticoats, so after the ceremony the Alton Towers staff helped me take the petticoats off so that I could fit on the rides."

Lizzie, aged 28, and Christian, 27, signed the legal marriage documents locally the day before because Alton Towers is unable to officially wed people on its grounds. They have been dating for three years after meeting over Facebook.

However, they both regarded the theme park event as the real thing and had no guests for the signing.

Lizzie continued: "I love all of the rides and the VIP passes we had meant that we didn't have to queue at all.

"Even though we were technically married the week before in legal terms, we will always celebrate the Alton Towers wedding ceremony as our wedding anniversary day."

Lizzie's three sons McKarthy-John, nine, Riley-Kai, five, and Mikki-Blue, one, were all page boys at the event, wearing baby pink and blue to suit the wedding theme.
