Delays after pedestrian hit by car in Wolverhampton city centre

Drivers faced delays this morning after a smash on a busy city centre route.

Police received reports that a van had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian at around 8.30am this morning on Ring Road St John's near the junction with Snow Hill.

The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises.

His injuries are not thought to be serious. The van mounted the pavement following the collision.

West Midlands police spokeswoman Sarah Buxton said: "We were called to Snow Hill in Wolverhampton city centre after receiving reports of a crash involving a van and a pedestrian.

"A man was taken to hospital by ambulance with cuts and bruising. We have requested recovery of the van."

West Midlands Ambulance spokesman John Hawker said the pedestrian was treated at the scene by paramedics who arrived within three minutes of receipt of the emergency call.

He was then taken by land ambulance to New Cross.
