Stanislaw Kasprzak was fatally injured as he crossed Kenrick Way and died at the scene of the collision with a lorry on the traffic island above Junction 1 of the M5 in Sandwell.

The 46-year-old Polish national was cycling home to Birmingham at around 6.50am on Wednesday, June 10, after finishing his night shift.

John Hawker, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: "Crews arrived to find a cyclist and a HGV that had been in a serious collision.

"Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save the man riding the bicycle and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The man driving the HGV was treated by ambulance crews for the effects of shock but did not require hospital treatment."

Mr Kasprzak leaves his partner and a two-year-old child.

Police Sergeant Alan Wood, from the collision investigation unit, said: "A number of witnesses have already come forward and supplied us with valuable information about this incident. This is a particularly busy junction with many vehicles and other road users in the vicinity at the time. I would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak to police, to please contact us. This is a difficult time for the family and our thoughts are with them."

Anyone who can help police should call 101 quoting incident log 272 of 10 June 2015.
