UPDATED: Son in court charged with attempted murder of parents in Wolverhampton knife attack

A man appeared in court this afternoon charged with attempted murder after his parents were stabbed in Wolverhampton.

Marcel Mowbray appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court for the brief hearing. He was remanded in custody until September 9.

The unemployed 24-year-old was arrested just after midnight yesterday after being hunted by officers following the stabbings at an address in Eastfield Grove at around 1.45pm.

Police said they had been concerned for the welfare of Mowbray, of Eastfield Grove, who was eventually was spotted by officers on patrol just after midnight and arrested in the Bushbury Lane area of Wolverhampton.

He was held on suspicion of attempted murder of the couple, who are said by neighbours to be his parents.

A woman, 57, was taken to hospital with stab wounds to the neck where she remains in a stable condition, while a 55-year-old man was also admitted with injuries to his back has now been released.

West Midlands Police spokesman Pete Edney said: "A full investigation is underway into the attack which is not believed to have been random but was a domestic assault on family members."
