A post mortem has this afternoon been conducted and the result is that the man, aged 65, - who has not yet been formally identified - died as a result of stab wounds.

Police were called to the address at Cottage Walk, off Spon Lane just before 4pm on Tuesday after they were alerted to the address by a member of the public concerned for the man's welfare.

Specialist officers are in contact with the man's family and supporting them at this time.

Detective Inspector Ian Iliffe, from force CID, said: "We know that this man was alive on May 5 and we would ask anyone who knows his movements from that date to contact us.

"It is possible that he may have been dead for up to four weeks but we are currently in the process of establishing the circumstances.
