£300m Staffordshire power station gets go-ahead

A planned £300 million power station in Staffordshire has been given the green light by government inspectors.

The Meaford Energy Centre, near Stone, which will create more than 800 construction jobs, is expected to be fully operational by 2020.

Company director Rupert Wood said the firm was very pleased with the decision.

It follows a public consultation last summer into the combined gas and steam turbine on the 85-acre Meaford Business Park. Bosses say the development will also create 30 highly-skilled permanent jobs.

The process now moves on to the pre-examination stage, where anyone who may have an interest in the proposals can register for participation at infrastructure.planningportal.gov.uk
