Firefighters cut out a mother and son from their car following the accident on Hare Street, Bilston, on the junction with the Black Country Route during this morning's rush hour traffic.

The woman, at the wheel of a Peugeot 408, suffered neck and back injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital for treatment. Her son, in his mid-teens, was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Vauxhall Zafira people carrier, was unhurt. Hare Street was blocked off for just under an hour.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 8.08am. Bilston fire crew manager Andy Howard said: "The collision was right by the roundabout junction with the Black Country Route. We had to take the door off to reach the driver of the Peugeot, She was obviously shaken but conscious.

"We also took the passenger side door off because the lad was trapped due to damage to the car from the impact. The lady from the people carrier was out of her vehicle on arrival."

The road re-opened just before 9am.
