Alicza Nicholls was in the kitchen at the back of her home in Hillcrest Road, Dudley when she heard a 'loud argument' taking place in the street at the front.

She told Wolverhampton Crown Court she moved to the living room to see what was happening in the street and saw the two men in physical contact in the middle of the road, engaged in what she described as 'wrestling' and a 'fight,' though her view was slightly obscured by a car.

Mrs Nicholls, who lives with her husband Darren and young daughter, then saw one of the men, who she described as of a 'medium to large' build, hitting the other with a baseball bat, though she could not see who was being hit because of the car.

Kasim Ali and two 17-year-old boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, deny attempting to murder Tariq Mahmood, aged 37 and attacking his 19-year-old stepson Ajmal Choudhary in August last year.

Mrs Nicholls said she also noticed a black five door Vauxhall Vectra parked in the middle of the road while the fight was taking place.

She found Mr Choudhary lying unconscious in the road near where the Vectra had been parked. Blood was coming out of a wound on the top left side of his forehead.

However, she did not see Mr Mahmood, who had to have a large part of his skull removed following the attack.

Mr Choudhary was carried into his family home and Mrs Nicholls followed him to the house where she looked after the youngest daughter of Mr Choudhary's mother Shabana while she tended to him and her husband, Mr Mahmood.

The latter was taken to hospital by ambulance to receive treatment for serious head and brain injuries.

Mrs Nicholls said: "I was shocked at what was happening."

Earlier, the court heard how Mrs Choudhary had invited the defendants to her home after they had pulled up alongside her in the Vectra outside the Spar shop in Buffery Road and asked her where her son was.

When they reached the house, Mr Mahmood went in to get his stepson, thinking they were friends, before Ali was heard to say 'get the machete' and was seen with a samurai sword.

There had been a dispute between Mr Choudhary and one of the youths on social media website Instagram a couple of weeks before.

The trial continues.
