Attendances rocketed around seven per cent as bosses struggled to cope with a huge influx of patients.
The trust that runs New Cross was slapped with heavy fines during the financial year as a result of not seeing enough patients within four hours.
In total 117,000 patients visited A&E between April 2014 and March 2015, up from 109,000 in 2013/14.
A new £38 million Emergency Centre opens at the hospital later this year. It includes an A&E unit three times bigger than the current one.
