The rider, a man believed to be in his 30s, was thrown from the bike after the collision with a car in Teddesley Road, Penkridge.

It happened underneath an M6 bridge at around 5.45pm and the man had to be resuscitated by paramedics after going into cardiac arrest. He was then taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "On arrival, crews discovered a man in his 30s who had been thrown from his motorbike following a collision with a car.

"The man had gone into cardiac arrest as a result of the incident and CPR had already been started prior to our arrival.

"Ambulance crews took over to begin advanced life support and after managing to re-establish a pulse, the man was anesthetised before being airlifting to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.

"Unfortunately, the man's injuries are thought to be extremely serious.

"The driver of the car was assessed at scene but did not require any further treatment."
