Drivers warned of delays as more overnight closures of city centre tunnels to come

Motorists are being warned about disruption as two main road tunnels through Birmingham are closed overnight for repairs.

The A38 St Chad's and Queensway tunnels will be closed overnight from 10pm until 6am from between April 1 and May 8.

Officials say the closures are for remedial works to collision damage, cleaning of the walls and signage.

The closures will also allow developers involved in the Paradise Circus works to enter the tunnels to carry out structural inspections and testing.

During the closures, routine maintenance works that would otherwise be done later in the year will also be completed.

There will also be a break in the closures on the evening of May 2 to allow for preparations for the Great Birmingham 10k Run.

Highways network manager for contractors Amey, Eddie Fellows, said: "We would like to thank any motorists who use the route overnight for their understanding and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused."
