VIDEO: Jobs and customers lost as Wolverhampton roadworks bring disruption

Traders have blamed Wolverhampton city centre roadworks for a drop of up to 40% in customers visiting their shops and the loss of at least two jobs.

John Henn, owner of the oldest Jewellers in Wolverhampton said he is also increasingly frustrated with the lack of movement on the project, and that it has caused the longest sustained drop in sales in his 34 year history of running the store.

But regeneration boss Councillor Peter Bilson said that the project is part of a larger scheme to improve shoppers' experience of the city and to make it a more attractive place to investors and developers.

Princess Street, Garrick Street and Market Street will be torn up and revamped in a bid to make the city more pedestrian friendly.

The work is set to last more than six months.
