Campaigners are working to protect the Seven Stars pub in Sedgley after Morrisons announced a desire to buy the pub from Marston's and turn it into a supermarket.

Dudley North MP Ian Austin has worked with campaigners to save the pub by getting it listed as an Asset of Community Interest, and has pushed for extra protections for community pubs.

The MP praised the hard work of campaigners in gathering around 2,500 signatures for the petition and said that it showed that local residents were clearly opposed to the development.

Mr Austin said: "Pubs like the Seven Stars are at the heart of the local community in Dudley, and I'm on the side of local residents that don't want it turned into a supermarket.

"I want the government to listen to local campaigners because this is a perfect example of why the law should offer community pubs more protection."

Ministers must now respond to the request in writing.
