The security incident caused trains to be delayed by up to 25 minutes yesterday.

Services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street were affected as the man had to be removed from the tracks by security staff.

Network Rail spokesman Jon Crampton said: "We were alerted to a trespass incident at Wolverhampton at 12.50pm and the person was escorted from the railway at 1.15pm.

"The incident did unfortunately cause delays but the problem was dealt with quickly."

A commuter at the station, who did not want to be named, said that a man had been sitting on the tracks until being removed by security.

The delays affected services between the two stations up until around 2.30pm.

CrossCountry passengers who had been affected were given permission to use their tickets on the Midland Metro between Wolverhampton and Birmingham Snow Hill while the problem was sorted.
