Mother from Wolverhampton killed in Hampshire plane crash

A mother from Wolverhampton has been named as a victim of a plane crash in Hampshire.

Sally Tonkinson and husband Lewis died after the light aircraft they were travelling in came down in Blackwood Forest on Saturday.

The couple, aged 44 and 50 respectively, lived in Alcester, Warwickshire but Mrs Tonkinson is believed to originally be from Low Hill in Wolverhampton.

Their six-year-old son George is fighting for his life at Southampton General.

The family-of-three were forced to try to make an emergency landing at a grass airfield in Popham, Hampshire, after weather suddenly deteriorated.

Mrs Tonkinson is believed to also have two more children from her first marriage

Mr Tonkinson was director of his own company, Pinnacle Marketing Communications.

Up to 25 firefighters fought the blaze at the crash site.

Police are still at the scene and the Air Accident Investigation Branch is carrying out an assessment.

The aircraft is due to be removed later and had taken off from Bembridge on the Isle of Wight earlier on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Post mortem examinations will take place tomorrow.
