Armed police swoop on home amid fears of man with gun inside
Armed police swooped on a house in Cannock town centre after reports of man inside with a gun.
Officers arrived at the property in Wolverhampton Road near to the town's police station. The police helicopter also assisted.
Part of the road was closed off as a result.
The man in his 50s was detained and a search was carried out at the house.
However police say no weapon was recovered and he was later released without charge.
Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Sarah Davison said: "We were called to to Wolverhampton Road at around 4.20pm on Thursday following concerns being raised about the occupant.
"Due to the information received, that the occupant was in possession of a firearm, armed response officers attended along with unarmed colleagues.
"A section of the road was blocked off while the officers resolved the incident."
Police left the scene at around 5.30pm.
