The well-loved music venue is on the market for £290,000.

Over the years, the venue in Bracken Close has attracted big names including legendary pop star Alvin Stardust and a host of popular tribute bands.

But owner Geoff Summerfield has revealed he plans to retire next year - and permission has been granted by Cannock Chase Council to demolish the club and build new homes on the land.

Mr Summerfield says he would love a buyer to swoop in and carry on running it as a music venue.

He said: "I'm 64 years old now and I want to retire. I've had the club for 16 years but it's time to move on.

"I want to sell it. I would love to sell it on as a music venue but there is planning permission to turn it into homes. It's all set up as a music venue."

The planning permission is to knock down The Tackeroo, which sits on the edge of Cannock Chase, and build 13 two-bedroom apartments in its place.

Mr Summerfield added: "It'll be a shame to see it go. Places are closing down left, right and centre.

"There aren't many music venues around anymore. I know people will be said to see us go."

The club is currently only open on Fridays and Saturdays but Mr Summerfield said it was still busy on both those days. Live bands play at the venue on a regular basis, attracting scores of music lovers.

Before Mr Summerfield owned the venue, it was a working men's club dating back to the 1950s.

"It needs someone to go in there with a bit of enthusiasm," he added.

My Coo-Ca-Choo singer Alvin Stardust graced the stage of the Tackeroo in 2012.

Other bands to have performed at the venue over the years include Soul'd Out and a host of tribute bands. There have also been numerous charity nights held at the club.
