A gala dinner due to take place this month remembering one of the three stars, Laurie Cunningham, has been postponed until the new year.

But organiser, businessman Jim Cadman, today reiterated the plans to reveal the statue remained on course to be held next July – a year behind the original schedule.

The bronze statue, costing £220,000, will be erected in West Bromwich town centre, near New Square shopping centre.

It features the trail-brazing trio of former West Brom players also including Cyrille Regis and Brendon Batson.

All three are credited in helping bring down barriers in the fight against racism on the terraces. Mr Cadman said they still hope to raise £30,000 towards the statue.
