Trains suspended after body found on the tracks

Trains between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton have been suspended after a body was found on the line.

The incident, between the county town and Wellington happened just before 6pm on Saturday.

British Transport Police say the driver of the15.30pm Aberystwyth to Birmingham train reported that his train had struck a person at Allscott near Wellington.

"Officers from British Transport Police, West Mercia Police and paramedics went to the scene and a body of a male person was found deceased at the scene," a spokesman said.

He said there were currently no suspicious circumstances.

Train services were suspended while investigations took place.

The line was reopened around 8pm. Delays of around one hour remain.

Arriva Trains Wales advised Passengers for Wolverhampton, Birmingham and beyond and vice versa to travel via Crewe.

"Virgin Trains are conveying passengers between Crewe and Birmingham New Street in both directions until further notice. "Arrangements have been made for Arriva Trains Wales rail tickets to be accepted for these journeys," a spokesman said.
