David Clarke, who is now in a coma, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham following the accident at the junction of Stourbridge Road and Wellington Road at 7.20am.

He suffered a significant head injury and a suspected fractured pelvis. Mr Clarke, who is a member of Stourbridge MCC, lives in Dudley with his partner Michelle Bree-Paramor.

He was riding his partner's purple Suzuki GSX 1100 while on his way to work in Stourbridge when the crash happened.

An unmarked police car parked behind the lorry carrying the trike, and a vehicle believed to be involved with the accident.

Miss Bree-Paramor received a knock on her door from police, who told her her partner was at hospital. She visited him before returning to the scene of the crash at about 1pm.

She told the Express & Star: "He's been put in a coma, I'm told it's a wait now for the next 48 hours to see how he does - he has bad swelling on his body.

"It's an anxious time for everyone."

Police closed Stourbridge Road for five hours after the crash for investigation and to recover the two vehicles.

West Midlands Ambulance Service as well as a crew of the Midlands Air Ambulance based in Cosford attended the crash.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews arrived to find the patient lying on the ground approximately 20ft away from his three-wheeled motorbike.

"Crews were told that the man had been thrown from his motorbike following a collision with a lorry.

The lorry believed to have been involved is taken away from the scene.

"It quickly became apparent that the man had suffered a significant head injury in the incident as well as a suspected fractured pelvis.

"Due to the serious nature of his injuries, the doctor gave him an anesthetic at scene before he was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The doctor travelled with the patient to continue emergency medical treatment en-route.

"Unfortunately, the man's injuries were considered extremely serious.

"The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the incident."
