The one-storey ward will be built on an internal road and staff car park on the hospital site and will be adjacent to the Beynon Centre, Maternity and the Deanesly Centre

Bosses say the new facility will create an extra 27 beds, with six four-bed wards with en-suite; and three single bed areas with en-suite which can be tailored for men and women patients.

The plans submitted to Wolverhampton City Council also state that there will also be a procedures room, cleaning room, dirty utility room, staff locker room with toilets and showers, a Sisters' Office, staff

room/visitors interview area, storage facilities, and pantry.

There will also be a direct covered link which will take the staff and patients to the main hospital corridor via the the Beynon Unit.

The Wednesfield-based hospital is currently dealing with record patient numbers, partly down to ward closures and uncertainty over service at Stafford Hospital.
