Driver arrested after young woman killed in smash has bail extended

A driver arrested after a woman was killed when hit by car at a bus stop has had his bail extended.

Former Stourbridge student Rebecca McManus, aged 21, of Harborne Road, Oldbury, died at the scene on Hagley Road West in Bearwood from multiple injuries.

The crash happened on May 31.

A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was then released on bail pending further inquires.

Today, police said his bail had been extended as investigations continue.

Miss McManus had attended King Edward VI College in Stourbridge, before enrolling at the University of East Anglia in Norwich for an English literature with creative writing degree course.

She also worked as a publicity assistant at publisher Unthank Books.

Tributes were paid by teachers, friends and fellow students following her death. Her death was described as an 'irreplaceable loss' by staff at the University of East Anglia.

A second woman, also 21, who was with Miss McManus at the time of the crash was also injured.
