Protestors waved Palestine flags to show solidarity in what appeared to be a peaceful protest.

They gathered by the Bullring from 5pm yesterday in a rally organised by the Stop the War Coalition.

Large numbers gathered by the entrance to the Mailbox, meaning front access to the building was closed.

People carried placards saying 'End the siege of Gaza' and 'No to collective punishment'.

Police said that the protest was peaceful and they were monitoring a safe dispersal of the protestors at around 8.30pm. Birmingham councillor Waseem Zaffar said: "End the siege in Gaza, a clear message from the people of Birmingham."
