Balloons mark death of 14-year-old cancer victim
Hundreds of yellow balloons have been released in memory of teenager Danni Burrows, who lost her battle against cancer at the age of 14.
Large crowds of friends, family and people from the community gathered on the fields near to her home last night to pay their respects to the teenager from Lower Gornal who died on Saturday.
Messages were attached to many of the balloons, which were the latest tribute to the pupil of Ellowes Hall School.
The talented dancer was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and was undergoing treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Other tributes included floral tributes laid in the school's grounds and a dedicated Facebook page that was flooded with hundreds of messages of support and remembrance.
Abby Burrows, Danni's Cousin, was one of the people to post on the web page, added: "God has gained a beautiful angel; so proud to call you my cousin just wish we had of got the chance to see u more. You have amazing friends everyone; is so proud of you and the fight you put up. Sleep tight princess until we meet again. Love you lots. Your big cuz"
One of her sisters Alexandra Willetts added: "My beautiful little sister. I'm broken hearted. Sleep tight, until we meet again. Love you millions."
The mother of one of her friends, Stephanie Trevis, said: "Danni you were a dear friend of my son and although I didn't know you personally the tragic loss of your beautiful young life has upset me deeply. My thoughts are with your parents and family and all the staff and pupils at Ellowes who have shown so much love and respect. Sleep tight beautiful angel."
Friends and family have been planning to hold a number of fundraising events for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The school are also planning to hold an assembly for peers to celebrate her life.
Her head teacher, Andrew Griffiths, said: "She was a bubbly well liked girl and will be sadly missed.
"She had told me that she still intended to study dance and was committed to the subject."
Adele Brookes, another person to post on the wall, said: "RIP Danni. Your such an inspiration to all that knew you. Taken too young from all your family and friends that adored you. My heart goes out to your beautiful mom Penny & the rest of your family. You'll be missed dearly. Sleep tight beauty."
