Stephen Sutton hits back at cruel internet trolls

Terminally ill teenager Stephen Sutton has hit back at internet trolls who claim he has 'duped' people into donating to charity.

The cruel messages have been posted on Twitter and Facebook after Stephen, who last week thought he was on the brink of death, was released from hospital.

The 19-year-old took to social media in response as friends rallied round to express their disgust and give their support to him.

One internet troll, whose Twitter profile was later not active, said people were feeling duped after his sudden recovery.

But Stephen said: "Sorry to disappoint you! So you know, I still have my cancer and it's still incurable, if that makes you feel less 'duped' x"

Others were quick to give their support to the teenager from Burntwood, and condemn the poster who went under the name @Shaneobrmayo81.

Naomi Hulme tweeted: "The world is poor because of people like you, if we had more people like Stephen we'd be rich in ways money can't buy."

Another said: "Interesting to see that profile has gone! Shame on him and prayers and hopes to you Stephen ... Amazing!"

Friends also gave their backing to Stephen at the successful world record attempt of making heart-shaped hand gestures, held at Chase Terrace Technology College yesterday.

Hannah Telles, aged 17, a school friend of Stephen who helped organise the attempt said: "I think it is disgusting really that someone could have said it.

He has had an impact on so many thousands of people," she said.

"It has been great to be able to do something for Ste and get another thing of his bucket list. A couple of weeks ago it was looking impossible he was going to be here. For him to take part in his own record is amazing."

Friend Ollie Tooth, 18, added: "He is such a genuine guy that is trying to make a difference. He has set out to make everyone's day a bit brighter."

He added he would not rule out the appeal hitting £5m. "The way the support is going it wouldn't surprise me."

The inspirational teenager has helped to raise £3.1 million through his fundraising appeal.

He was allowed home from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after a visit from the Prime Minister on Friday.
