Victim Connan McLeod was found in Whitemill Lane in Stone at around 12.20am in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Despite desperate efforts by paramedics Mr McLeod, from Stone, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A post-mortem has since confirmed that the cause of death was a stab wound.

Three men, aged 20, 26 and 29, have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Two men who were arrested early on Saturday have now been released on police bail whilst the investigation continues and detectives are now questioning the third male who was arrested in Burton-on-Trent this afternoon.

Det Sup Wayne Jones, of Staffordshire Police, said: "We have been working around the clock since the early hours of Saturday morning to investigate the tragic death of Connan.

"I want to thank the public for their support with the appeal for information about this investigation. We issued the appeal to find a man in connection with the incident late on Saturday afternoon and the Facebook appeal alone reached nearly 200,000 people. I believe that this support has contributed to this latest arrest.

"Our work continues and an important part of this is supporting Connan's family and the wider community affected by this incident. I continue to urge anyone with any information or concerns to get in touch. Uniformed officers continue to patrol the area talking to local residents."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
