The incident happened last week at King's Church of England School in Regis Road.

The city council confirmed a pupil was treated for a fractured finger. The staff member is not believed to be a teacher.

Council spokesman Gurdip Thandi said: "An investigation has been launched following an incident at King's School, in which a pupil was injured. As the inquiry is now under way, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
