Woman and dog bitten in 'nasty' school-run attack in Tipton

A woman and her dog were bitten by a Staffordshire bull terrier in a 'nasty attack' while on the school-run.

The woman was on her way to collect her daughter from school with the family's Jack Russell, when the pair were attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier being walked by two women on Grace Road, Tipton.

The 32-year-old spotted the dog, which she says she thought looked aggressive, coming towards her and moved to pick up Scamp.

But the Staffy then went for both the dog and the woman, biting her arm and the Jack Russell's leg.

The Bull Terrier only let go when a woman ran out of her house to help and threw water over the animal.

Sergeant Leighton Shingles, from Sandwell Investigation Team, said: "This was a very nasty attack which has traumatised a whole family.

"Their pet was badly injured and is facing possibly losing its leg and the woman was very distressed about the incident.

"We want to hear from anyone who may have seen this dog in the Tipton area, as we assume that it is probably owned by people local to Grace Road or Princes End.

"The dog is white and was described as quite tall and muscly for the breed so could have been a cross.

"The dog is obviously powerful and appears to be dangerous and so we urge people to help us trace it to prevent any similar incidents."

The dog was being walked by a white woman, who was around 5ft 5in tall, with curly blonde hair. The attack took place on March 10 at around 3pm.

Those with information should call Sandwell Investigation Team at West Bromwich police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
