Around 400 homes would be built on land in Blakenall, if the scheme is given the go ahead.

It has been revealed today that schools in the area could also receive a funding boost of more than £1million to help cope with an increase in pupils while improvements to the road network in the area would also be made.

It has also emerged that under the plans 243 new homes would be built off Keats Road.

Another 134 homes are planned for a site between Chaucer Road and Shakespeare Crescent, with the remaining 25 homes earmarked for the top end of Shakespeare Crescent, near to Well Lane.

The long-awaited scheme will be discussed by members of Walsall Council's planning committee next week where it has been recommended for approval.

According to a planning report due to go before the committee, Walsall children's services is asking the developer for a contribution of £1.1 million to increase two local primary schools to cope with additional pupils.

Road safety is also set to be addressed along the Harden Road corridor and highway improvements and pathways for pedestrians are planned for the area.

It comes after residents have expressed concerns about increased traffic and congestion, particularly in Goscote Lane.

When first unveiled the scheme also included plans to build 240 homes on green belt land, known as the Lea, but they have since been dropped.

The new plans are recommended for approval at a Walsall Council planning meeting next Thursday.

If the scheme is approved and funding is secured, the scheme could start in 2016.

The 400 homes would be a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom properties.
