Bosses at Staffordshire County Council have rubber stamped a move that will see the William Salt Library in Stafford and Lichfield Record Office close, with all archives being housed at Stafford Record Office under plans for a £4 million extension.

Closing the Lichfield site will save £70,000 a year and it is estimated closing the William Salt Library will save a further £75,000 a year.

In a separate move, the council's cabinet agreed a partnership with public service provider Amey to repair the county's roads, with some workers expected to be transferred.
