A planning application has now been submitted for the University of Wolverhampton's proposed new business school at the junction of Molineux Street and Camp Street in the city.

The plans are part of a wider £45m expansion of the university, which attracts thousands of students from across the Black Country, Staffordshire and beyond.

The six-storey business school will boast classroom and social space.

This will include lecture, tutorial and seminar rooms, as well as offices and a cafe.

It would see a piece of grassland between the university's school of health and current business school transformed.

Bosses today said the move signalled the university business school's growing reputation.

If planning permission is granted it is hoped that building work will begin in December with a completion date pencilled in for May 2015.

The university, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, is currently searching for contractors and hopes to compile a shortlist by October. The new business school comes alongside plans for a new £25 million science block which will see the five-storey MB building which fronts Stafford Street transformed.

Work is currently also ongoing on a new £250,000 multi-use sports pitch for the university.

It comes after the city's former Varsity pub, on the corner of Stafford Street and Wulfruna Street, was transformed into an advice centre for prospective students of the university.
