They offer a first glimpse of the huge glass atrium entrance to the two-storey store.

The 27,000 sq ft supermarket will be in the New Mill Gate area of the town centre between Flood Street and King Street, if planning permission is granted.

The Falcon House office block will be knocked down to make way for the supermarket complex, which will also include a cafe and petrol station.

Changes

A car park below the complex will have space for 278 vehicles. The scheme will create up to 500 new jobs and bring much-needed redevelopment to King Street.

Developer Commercial Estate Group submitted its final details for the £20million scheme to Dudley Council for approval this month.

It includes some design amendments following a public consultation on the idea last year.

Richard Burke, project manager at Commercial Estates Group, said: "We have had very positive discussions with the council and the amendments to the plans make for a scheme which will bring great benefits to the wider community through landscaping, improvements to pedestrian access and a major investment in the heart of the town.

"We look forward to bringing the plans forward in the near future."

Falcon House in The Minories, which dates back to the 1960s, will be demolished as part of the project. The building is in a part of the town which the council is keen to see redeveloped. It is used as offices, but is 75 per cent empty. The new complex will be linked to the town centre by walkway routes.

Amendments to the initial planning application include changes to the design of the building to mimic shop fronts in King Street. Provision will also be made for a possible Metro stop by the supermarket.
