Call for action over mounds of rubbish in Dudley town centre
Mounds of rubbish including old settees and pots of paint have been dumped on an overgrown site in Dudley town centre. Bags of waste and pieces of metal have also been strewn across land off Little Street, near Cavendish House.
Residents branded the site, which can be seen from homes in Hall Street, as "a tip" and are calling for action over the problem. They say the land has been cleaned up in the past but tipping has intensified over the past four months on the land close to Trindle Road.
More furniture and litter has appeared on the site in recent days after being slung over a metal fence erected around the plot.
Retired resident Robert Goodwin, aged 65, has watched the pile mount up, prompting him to call Dudley Council about the mess.
He is demanding enforcement around the site with cameras to try and deter flytippers and groups of youths hanging around.
"It has become a tip and just looks an absolute mess," he said.
"Something needs doing about it because it is getting worse.
"People have been throwing stuff over the fence and it is just collecting up here now so it needs clearing up.
"It doesn't look good right here in the town by the main road."
Another resident, who didn't wish to named, added: "I can't believe that people would dump rubbish like this right in the town."
Mr Goodwin is asking the council to sort out the rubbish before it gets worse. Council officials say they are aware of the problem and are looking into what can be done.
The site neighbours Cavendish House which is earmarked for redevelopment for a new supermarket.
Dudley Council says it had 474 flytipping reports between April and the end of October last year.
Environment boss Councillor Tracy Wood said any incident of fly-tipping is unacceptable and the council takes measures to catch and prosecute offenders.
